Wake up to the aroma of freshly ground gourmet coffees and teas ready for early-bird risers. A full, scrumptious three-course breakfast is served in the dining room with sample signature dishes such as baked eggs with Havarti and dill, homemade granola, Peaches and Crème Brulee French toast, Lemon Soufflé pancakes, succulent and delightful fresh local fruits with crème fraiche, blueberry breads, raspberry lemon streusel muffins, cinnamon pecan Belgian waffles, and lobster stuffed crepes! Feature menu items incorporate many local Maine products. Afternoon tea is served with fresh baked scones, biscotti and the innkeepers choice of the day. Gourmet hot chocolate is available for the colder months, and ice teas and lemonade during the summer.
After breakfast, you may want to take a leisurely stroll to Penobscot Bay and Belfast's waterfront downtown, an area that is home to an impressive assemblage of historic brick buildings filled with art galleries, antique shops, book stores, and restaurants. Belfast has recently been described as "A Town to Make You Fall in Love with America All Over Again" (Marian Betancourt, December 05). USA Today has rated Belfast as one of the country's top 5 "culturally cool" small towns. The area has a plethora of activities for those whose interests include nature, the sea, sporting activities for all seasons, the arts, movies, antiques, and the quaint atmosphere of a revitalized small town.
Take an historic walking tour of Church Street featuring The Alden House and its Greek revival architecture, and view magnificent homes along the way. Another walking tour is "The Museum in the Streets" describing Belfast's colorful history settled by Scots Irish pioneers. Belfast offers windjammer sails, bay cruises, lobster picnics, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, golf, tennis, museums, The Masker's Theatre, train excursions, charming retail shops, street music on summer Thursday's, art boutiques displaying a variety of mediums, and an array of dining experiences.
Ted and Deborah look forward to sharing The Alden House and the wonders of Maine with you. They are confident the beauty of Maine will capture your soul and their genuine hospitality will capture your heart.
