Introduction
The Artful Lodger Inn, a romantic Victorian bed & breakfast on historic Spring Street, is an intimate treasure tucked in amongst Newport's glorious mansions. The rooms have been lovingly restored to recapture the feel as well as the look of the Victorian period.
Diagonally across from the Artful Lodger is "The Elms" mansion, modeled after the Chateau of Asnieres near Paris for Edward J. Berwind, the wealthy mining magnate. The mansion is famous for its sunken gardens and lavish parties. Other gilded age mansions are also located within a short walk of the Artful Lodger. St. Mary's Church, the church chosen for the Kennedy-Bouvier marriage on Sept. 12, 1953, is located on the corner of Spring Street and Memorial Boulevard.
The Artful Lodger is a short walk to the world-famous Cliff Walk that combines the natural beauty of the Newport coastline with the architectural history of the Gilded Age. The three and a half mile picturesque walk begins at Easton Beach and winds its way past The Breakers mansion and Marble House's Chinese Tea House and many other glorious examples of Newport's storied past.
