Introduction
Praised by one national publication as "a flawless urban hideaway, "Governor's House is a romantic National Historic Landmark (circa 1760) reflecting the beauty, civility and grandeur of Historic Charleston. The Inn has been acclaimed as "Charleston's most glamorous and sophisticated inn" by Travel Holiday, and Southern Living magazine discovered, "Check into the Governor's House Inn and you may never want to check out."
Ideally situated in the heart of the Charleston historic district, Governor's House is within walking distance of garden and house tours, the Battery, antique shopping, the Old Market, and fine restaurants.
Over 200 years ago, during Charleston's Golden Age, this magnificent home was the residence of Governor Edward Rutledge, the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. Here, he and his wife Henrietta Middleton received some of the country's most prominent leaders. Today, The Governor's House Inn preserves the grandeur and romance of the Edward Rutledge House, making it one of Charleston's most inspiring bed and breakfast inns.
The elegant grandeur of the exquisite mansion is preserved for guests with 9 original fireplaces, 12' ceilings, crystal chandeliers, palatial living areas, family antiques and a sprawling double verandah.
The majesty of Charleston is best appreciated on foot, and The Governor's House Inn is located in the Heart of the City's Historic District. From our doorsteps on the South side of prestigious Broad Street, you can easily walk to The Battery, The Dock Street Theatre, The Market and King Street shopping. And we're just a short stroll from the City's most famous landmarks and finest restaurants.
If Governor's House is unable to provide your arrangements on the dates you plan to visit Charleston, you may wish to contact Two Meeting Street Inn, where our family's heritage of romantic accommodations began.
