Heritage House Bed & Breakfast

The innkeepers, Carl & Kim Ernst, bought the vacant building and spent three years commuting from Colorado to South Dakota to carefully restore this historical landmark into a bed and breakfast with old world charm and character. Kim grew up in De Smet and her heritage can be traced back as far as her great great grandparents, who may have known the Ingalls family. So it would only be fitting that they name the place the Heritage House.

A visit to the Heritage House is a trip back in time. This 4800 sq. ft. bed & breakfast has spacious rooms with 12 ft. ceilings. As you travel up the ornate wooden staircase, you will appreciate that each guest room is decorated in gracious style with fine period furnishings. Beautiful floral arrangements, fine antique furnishings and artifacts abound. The old world atmosphere remains throughout this bed & breakfast.

The Heritage House has two elegant European Suites and one masculine Ralph Lauren Family Suite. All offer the modern comfort of private baths, cable TV, and with the added convenience of a sitting area. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, we are committed to your comfort. Breakfast will be served in the dining room, formally the bank's lobby, with a tin ceiling restored to its original beauty. Admire the high ceilings and original woodwork throughout the Heritage House.

This wonderful oversized room with private entrance is decorated with a Ralph Lauren denim down comforter and old fashion looking quilts. Great for families and hunters, this room offers a queen sized bed and bunk beds; also for your comfort a sofa to relax on. This room can accommodate up to 5 guests.

This large, tailored room with high ceilings features a full sized walnut antique bedroom set and a comfortable little sofa to relax on. This suite can accommodate up to three guests.

This elegant two room suite with its Victorian style queen bed and dresser. Decorated in rich jewel tones and a mix of plaid and floral fabrics gives this room a unique style of its own and provides the perfect place to relax for the evening. This suite can accommodate up to four guests.

• Rates are based on single or double occupancy with a full or a queen size bed in each room.
• All rooms are able to accommodate extra guests.
• Rates do not include local taxes.
• Rates range from $99 to $169 per night.
• Corporate rates are available for single business travelers, Sunday through Thursday during off season.
• Check-in will be from 4 - 6 p.m. Please make advance arrangements for early or late arrivals. We want to be available to greet you when you arrive.
• Check-out is at 11 a.m. A late departure can be arranged ahead of time, subject to availability.
• Breakfast is served between 8 - 9 a.m. Schedule your breakfast at time of check-in.
• Room reservations will be secured with a Visa or a MasterCard.
• Advanced reservations are suggested during peek season.
• There is no charge for cancellations that are made 14 days prior to your scheduled arrival date.
• If cancellation is necessary within 14 days of your expected arrival, you will be charged 1/2 the room rate, unless we are able to rebook the accommodation for the same period. This will be charged to your Visa or MasterCard.
• If guests departs early, they will not be credited their room charge for the night.
• If your reservation falls on a pageant weekend, cancellations need to be made four weeks prior to scheduled arrival date. If the cancellation is made after that time and the room cannot be rebooked for the reserved dates you will be charged the full room rate.
• The Heritage House is a nonsmoking property, including but not limited to all guest rooms, public areas and dining rooms. Smoking is permitted outside the Inn.
• The Heritage House is unable to accommodate pets of any size or kind.
