Introduction
Dreaming by the River is a quite, serene bed and breakfast nestled in the woods overlooking the Caney Fork River where it joins the Cumberland River. The Inn is perched on a hill that offers river views from almost every vantage point. Situated less than an hour east of Nashville, where the Cumberland Plateau begins, Dreaming by the River offers a slow, relaxing atmosphere, perfect for the weary traveler to unwind.
Trails lead down to our quarter-mile river walk shaded by towering hard wood trees that stretch to heaven. Deer, turkey, blue herring, and numerous song birds share the beauty of this pastoral and wooded site.
When you are here, where guests refer to us as the "most restful place in the world", "where earth ends and heaven begins", or simply "perfect", you feel like you have left the insane rush of the 21st century behind. Feel the historical presence of the pioneers who entered this pristine wilderness at the end of the revolutionary war. Visit the local history museum and the 2nd-empire style courthouse in the county square, only 3 miles away.
When you need a vacation, without the usual vacation stress; when you need a break from the kids; when you need to reconnect with your significant other, Dreaming by the River offers that environment. Maybe the word most often repeated by our guest is "peaceful". We watch with amusement and delight the number of people who walk through our doors, tense, stressed, even somewhat cross upon their arrival. We watch those some folks linger at our front door when it is time to leave, hesitant to depart, faces smiling, shoulders relaxed, and declaring, "We will be back", often giving us a hug and saying "Thank you". Those are the times when there is no doubt being an Inn-keeper has perks no corporate job offers.
Experience the relaxing, soul restorative powers of nature up-close or from the great views of our spacious and comfortable bed rooms. The pictures do not begin to convey the grandeur of the 18 x 18 foot space. Rooms are value priced for two guests between $125 and $155 per night and include full in-suite baths, closets, and sitting areas. Two rooms share a balcony, while two offer fireplaces.
A large screened porch invites you to sit, read, and watch the river slowly flowing by. Leather recliners and couch around the gas log fireplace in the common area also have great views out the window or offer a place to relax with a good movie or book or play a game of chess. Another stacked stone fireplace at the deck is a wonderful place to roast marshmallows on a cool evening and even there the wireless network offers phenomenal speed to check your email or upload your pictures to your envious friends.
Complementary breakfasts are delicious and filling, typically with homemade biscuits, French toast, or waffles with seasonal fruits and juices, sausage or bacon. The guest kitchen adjacent to the common area is stocked with soft drinks, teas, popcorn and other treats - but feel free to add your own snacks and drinks to the wet bar or refrigerator.
